12/1/1833 Staffordshire Advertiser Staffordshire, England: James Smith (aged 14), for stealing 1½ pounds of leather, the property of John Tabbernor, his master, at Stoke-upon-Trent, for 7 years; [he will be sent to the Penitentiary :] James smith was listed as 16 years old on arrival in VDL. Place of Birth: Handley Green. Gaol Report: Not any friends to take care of him. James was 4'10½" tall, fresh complexion, brown hair, light hazel (S: Grey) eyes, Pock mark rt. side of chin S. 4 Dots on rt. arm Star C. on left arm. 31/12/1835 Muster: Transported to Port Arthur. 2/8/1839: TOL 1840: Free Certificate.
