John Smith and Robert Clarkson, charged with stealing a quantity of calico, from the shop of Thomas Collier, at Witney, value 20s. Transportation for life. William Dale, charged with receiving the same, knowing it to have been stolen.— Admitted Evidence. Oxford University and City Herald, 8 March 1828.  On Thursday, James Hack, Robert Clarkson, John Smith, and Edmund Morris, were removed from our county gaol to the hulks at Woolwich;  Oxford University and City Herald, 29 March 1828. ------------------------------------------------- National Archives. 1868, 19 October: John SMITH per Albion 1828, shop robbing, life, is on a list of so-called "British Lunatics" in the "Parramatta Lunatic Asylum" (see New South Wales, Australia, Convict Records, 1810-1891).
