The National Archives. Hulk Records. HO-9-2_4 Hulks at Chatham. Euryalus Received: Five from the Justitia, 13 Apr 1826. John Smith (3), age 13, Stg silk handf in a Dwg house. Tried Stafford, 9 Mar 1826, 7 years. How disposed of: VDL Lady Harewood, 18 Mar 1829. John Smith, aged 13, for breaking into a dwellinghouse at Kanton, in the day time, and stealing a silk handkerchief, to be transported for  seven years. [This young thief is well known in the neighbourhood of Kanton, where he has for some time been associated with bad characters. This time  twelve-months, he was charged with breaking into a dwelling-house in the night time, and was found guilty of stealing the property the proprietor of that house, for which offence he was sentenced to but one month’s imprisonment]  Staffordshire Advertiser, 18 March 1826.
