In 1869 John’s wife Bridget was sent to Female House of Correction- Cascades. 10/02/1869, John placed his six children aged 14 to 4 years old into the Queens Asylum for Destitute Children. John Smith died of a brain tumour 22/05/1869. He was given a paupers burial at Holy Trinity Burial Ground NS349/1/30.

Tasmania Names Search John would have been 17 when convicted in 1845. He married Bridget Cusack in 1954. They had to seek permission as they were both convicts. They married at Swan Port. They had six children, born in Glamorgan, Tasmania. Hannah 1855, Rosanna 1857, John George 1858, Patrick Hugh 1860, James Thomas 1862, John Bennett 1865. He received a conditional pardon 12/4/1853. A lot of the convict record is difficult to decipher but his life has been recorded, even his death in hospital 22/5/1869, died at General Hospital Hobart.
