John Smith was convicted at Leicester on 01/07/1833 for stealing two 5 pound notes. 7yr sentence. Surgeon's report: Good. Single man. 21yrs; Hazel eyes; lt brown eyes; 5'4"; butcher; Native Place - West Bromwich. Van Diemens Land: Assigned to Rev'd S. Martin 29/12/1834: using provative and insubordinate language. - 3mths in Launceston Chain Gang. 02/06/1835: Martin - insolence. 36 lashes. 25/04/1836: Martin - neglect of duty & insolence. 36 lashes. Accidently killed by the upsetting of a cart - 03/04/1837.
