Family connections for Joseph Nicol (Smith) are: SMITH Joseph Nicol (Smith) was tried for highway robbery of Mordecai Rodrigues (Lopes) at Surrey Lent Assizes at Kingston on 2 4 1797, sentenced to Death respited to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 9 7 1791 after a voyage of 6months on Fleet ship ADMIRAL BARRINGTON. He was Free by Servitude by 1799 & had a relationship with Ann (Cox her second relationship. [Some details taken from this Website] Ann (Cox) was tried at Warwick Assizes Warwickshire, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 7 10 1792 after a voyage of 4months on ROYAL ADMIRAL. She had a relationship with John (Carr). She was Free by Servitude by 1799. An Ann (Cox) died on 20 4 1810 age40 mother of 2known children & was buried at St Phillips CofE Sydney. HO 47/6/72 [1787] Certificate/memorial of Henry Gould on several convicts attainted at the Lent Assizes 1787 for whom 'some favourable Circumstances' appeared after their trial, and recommended for mercy on the conditions set against their names: Surrey Assizes at Kingston, 2 April 1787 Joseph Nicol Smith, for a highway robbery on Mordecai Rodrigues Lopes and stealing 1 guinea. 7 years transportation.
