Moreton Bay Convict Records Robert Smith, per Ann & Amelia, Tried at Dublin, Feb 1820, 7 years, Carpenter. Colonial conviction: Gen. Sess. Sydney, 20 Aug 1825, 2 years. To Sydney 2 Sep 1827. Description: Robt. Smith, native of Leitrim, age 23, 5 ft 5 ½ in; Dark comp. Black hair, blue eyes. Catholic. -------------------------------------------------- Colonial Secretary’s Correspondence. A letter from the P.Logan, Commandant at Moreton Bay, shows that Robert Smith, (Ann and Amelia), was employed in the early days of the settlement, as a “splitter of slabs”. SRNSW REF NO 4/1917.1 -------------------------------------------------- Robert Smith and Benjamin Blowers, prisoners of the crown, were brought to the Police Office on Saturday last, charged with being absentees from the Government Establishment at Emu Plains. The prisoners being called on for their defence, stated that owing to the scanty means of subsistence afforded them at that Establishment, they had absented from their employment, with a determination not to remain at that station. The prisoners were sentenced to be transported to Port Macquarie for a term of two years. The Australian, Thurs 25 Aug 1825. Robert Smith was not sent to Port Macquarie, but to Moreton Bay. -------------------------------------------------- Applications to Marry.
