THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE OLD BAILEY Born; 1809. Place of birth Kings Lynn. SARAH SMITH. Theft; pocket picking. 15th April 1830. 887. SARAH SMITH was indicted for stealing, on the 11th of April , 6 sovereigns and 11s., the monies of William Roberts , from his person . WILLIAM ROBERTS . I am a German. I met the prisoner on the 11th of April; she asked me to go with her to Wentworth-street - I did not like to go into a house with her; it was about four o'clock in the morning - we went down a court, and she told me to give her a 1s.; I took out my purse, which had 12s. and six sovereigns in it, and gave her 1s. out of it - I put it into my pocket; we were on the ground together for about five minutes - I felt her take my purse from me; I said, "Give it back to me, I don't want to make a noise, and you shall keep 1l. if you will give me 5l. back;" two Policemen were going by - I said,"Now give me my money;" but she would not, and the Police took her.
