The undermentioned 17 Convicts were on Friday last removed from the  County Gaol, Maidstone, and put on board the Retribution Hulk, at Sheerness-—Bernard Daly, Thomas Smith, Thomas Good, Charles Jones, Benjamin White, Thomas Smith, James Brown, Flower Howell, Thomas Dean, Edward Williams alias Louis Joseph Francois, James Harris Thomas Cooper, Stephen Nash, Cornelius Brewer, Richard Climson, James Wells, and James Austen —Transported for Life. Kent Herald, 28 Feb 1828. NOTE. There were 2 men named Thomas Smith, both tried at the same sessions at Kent, both sent to the same hulk, but they were transported on different ships. ---------------------------------------- National Archives.
