1832: On arrival in VDL, he was 31 and married to Sarah. They had three children. 1846: He received his Free Certificate no.37 (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON34-1-3$init=CON34-1-3P507).

1832, 4 January: Thomas Smith, 31, a labourer from Burnley, was tried at Preston and convicted for stealing three sovereigns from the person. He had a previous conviction for a similar felony. He was held on the Ganymede hulk at Woolwich and sent from there on 11 February for transportation to VDL (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849).
