Michael Snell was 23 years old on arrival, he was convicted along with John Frost (also on board) for 'setting fire to a wagon load of straw, the property of Mr. Eveson'. Previous Convictions: Stealing geese = 6 months. Michael was illiterate, single, 5'10 1/4" tall, dark complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, and heart left arm below elbow, bird inside. Spent 3 years at Norfolk Island. 17/10/1854: TOL 26/1/1858: CP 22/3/1853: Permission to marry Jane Anderson (Baretto Junior 1850) - No registration found, also Jane Anderson applied to marry many other men around the same time. 28/4/1857: Permission to marry Margaret Foley (Blackfriar) - Registered 1857. 18/4/1857: Married Margaret Foley, aged 23 at Oatlands - he was 32. Michael and Margaret moved to the Monaro, where they both died. 1898: Michael died of pneumonia at Ando, NSW. He was buried in the Bombala Cemetery. Margaret died aged 60 of pneumonia at the Bombala Hospital in 1898 and wqas also buried in the Bombala cemetery. 4/10/1898 Goulburn Evening Penny Post, NSW: Bombala, Monday.-An elderly man named Michael Snell died yesterday at Holt's Flat, aged 70 years. The deceased left £100 to the hospital, and £50 to four churches at Bombala, besides a considerable sum to the local benevolent society. 6/10/1898 Delegate Argus and Border Post, NSW: Another very old resident of the Manaro district passed away at Holt's Flat on Sunday, in the person of Mr. Michael Snell. Only a few days before he was in Bombala, and only took to his bed a couple of days before his death. His wife died, a couple of months ago in the local hospital. He was 75 years of age. No children found on the NSW BDM - also no mention of children in the death advertisements.
