This entry is a little confusing. It seems that father, Francis Spalding, and son, William Fanning, both arrived per same ship, using different surnames. It is likely that William, the son had the relationship with Esther Knowland, (and the children) and that father, Francis also lived with them, as recorded in 1798.

He had a relationship with Esther (Knowland). He was Free by Servitude by 1805. Esther (Knowland) arrived in NSW as a convict on 27 5 1797 after a voyage of 4.5months on BRITANNIA. She was Free by Servitude by 1805. William (Spalding) & Esther (Knowland) produced 2children: 1.Mary Charlotte (Spalding) was born on 7 10 1798 & baptised on 30 11 1798 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. She married firstly Michael (Minton his third relationship) on 8 10 1821 at Christ Church Castlereagh. She left her husband for a short time in November 1822. She was accused of assisting murder of her husband on 22 8 1824 & was acquitted. After the death of her husband in 1824 she associated secondly with John (Burke) & abondoned her children.>>> ..Michael (Minton) was born about 1774, possibly in Westmeath Ireland. He apparantly married firstly (1of3) in Ireland & produced 2children; these children were granted half their fathers estate after he died in 1824. He was tried in 1800 at Westmeath Ireland, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 6 1802 after a voyage of 7months on HERCULES. He was issued his Conditional Pardon on 1 1 1816; he was 5'7" yellow complexion silvery grey hair hazel eyes. He married secondly (2of3) as emancipist Maria (Nodes) emancipist on 16 3 1818 at St Peters ofE Richmond. In 1820 he was appointed constable at Evan. He was issued his Absolute Pardon <1821. On 17 5 1821 he sought grant of land, which seems to have been granted for 50acres at Windsor near Hawkesbury River. He advertised in November 1822 that his wife had absconded, she apparantly returned. He died on 11 8 1824 age about50 at Evan/Richmond after being shot & murdered at his farm by 2of his servants & perhaps his wife, father of 4known children & was buried at St Matthews CofE Windsor. In April 1834 he was subject to a sexual attack on the Parramatta-Sydney Rd by a prisoner named (Carey); he ordered to watch the execution of the perpetrator.
