Jonathan Spalls was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 15th Jul 1831 and arriving 26th Nov 1831 with 201 passengers.
Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

? Blyth, aged 16, and Jonathan Spalls, charged with having in the month of Feb last, stolen a pair shoes, the property of Gazeley. (Blyth) Guilty. 6 months imprisonment, Spalls 14 years transportation-The prisoner had been before convicted . Norfolk Chronicle, 9 April 1831. ... Spall had been before convicted, and appeared most incorrigible boy ; he was sentenced to years’ transportation, which he seemed to take in very good part. Norwich Mercury, 9 April 1831. Two lads named Blyth and Spall, were convicted of stealing a pair of shoes from James Gazeley. Blyth received an excellent character, and the Court sentenced him to six months' imprisonment and hard labour; Spall, who had been before convicted, was ordered to be transported for 14 years. Bury and Norwich Post, 13 April 1831.
