Tasmanian Record Description John Speakman, No. 2105. Farm labourer, height 5ft 6 ½. Native place, Flint. Age 53. pale complexion, black to grey hair, red whiskers, lt blue eyes. Lost 2 front teeth, upper jaw. Breast hairy. Appropriation Record John Speakman No 2105, – farm labourer, dig in a garden, Native place, Flamburgh? , appropriated to P.W. Allanvale party. Conduct Report Sentenced at Lancaster Q.S., 12 Jan 1835, 7 years for stealing a piece of printed calico. Gaol report – not known; Hulk report- Orderly. Married, 8 children. Wife Sarah at Manchester. Admitted this offence: stealing print at Manchester. Just one entry on his conduct report, dated October 4 1838: Disorderly conduct in destroying his bedding and breaking out of the huts at night.- appearing to be labouring under a slight aberration of mind. He is remanded to the Hospital. Although the name is John Spearman, this appears to be the burial record of John Speakman. It appears he died in hospital after the above record. Death of John Spearman Burial of John Spearman, in Parish of New Norfolk, 1st December 1838, aged 44. Ship, Layton, Hospital patient.
