The Sydney Gazette, on the 03 May 1838, reported,"A person named Speed, formerly a Lieutenant-Colonel in the British Army, died in the Benevolent Asylum, on the 26th utimo, a painful example of the inutability of all human prospects." The date of death would have been 26 May 1838. The writer believes, from other records sighted, that Speed was murdered!
