Suffolk Assizes. And Joseph Hartley Stammers, charged with having burglariously entered the dwelling-house of John Bigg, of Glemsford and stealing therefrom between 70£ and £100, in gold and silver. Bury and Norwich Post, 30 March 1825. --------------------------------------------------------------------- National Archives. Criminal Petitions. HO 17/15/113 Date: 21 June 1825. Prisoner name: John Stammers (or Joseph Stammers). Court and date of trial: Suffolk Lent Assizes 1825. Crime: Stealing in a dwelling house - goods valued at £100. Initial sentence: Death commuted to 14 years transportation. Gaoler's report: Bad conduct in gaol. Annotated (Outcome): Refused 8 July 1825. Petitioner(s): JW Eldred churchwarden of the parish of Glemsford, Suffolk. Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Family dependants; repentant; wife has respectable connections.

ADM 101/50/2 Medical journal of the convict ship Marquis of Hastings for 2 July 1825 to 9 January 1826, which sailed to New South Wales, by G.S. Rutherford, surgeon and superintendent. Folios 3-4: Joseph Stammers, aged 29; disease or hurt, enteritis. Taken ill, 30 August 1825 at sea. Discharged 12 September 1825 cured.
