James Standen was transported for stealing £21, from Mr. Tomkins, along with John Russell also on board the same ship. James was born near Tinterden, Kent, was 5'5 3/4" tall, could read and write, was married with 2 children. Father: James Mother: Mary, all at native place. 1853: TOL 4/4/54: COF 10/10/1854: Again convicted for stealing a horse, Value £560. Found guilty and to be transported for 10 years. Could not find where if he was still in Tasmania or where he was transported to.
James Standen married Mary Richardson on 13th June 1847 in Wittersham, Kent. He was a labourer born ca. 1820(?). He was named as the father of Alfred Richardson when the latter married Elizabeth Dorman on 12th October 1872 in Orlestone, Kent.
