Convict Notes

Date of birth amended from November 1793 to March 1793. following further research. There were 2 Richard Stanwells: both cousins. Both were born in 1793. Both died in 1859. Richard baptised March 1793 with parents Richard & Mary (nee Blay). He had 3 daughters as recorded in the convict's record at the time of his deportation. Richard married Ann Pooles in 1826 and had 3 daughters: Mary Ashton; Ann & Frances. Mary Ashton's name is linked with his mother's second husband, William Ashton. Richard & Ann's marriage was witnessed by Richard's brother John & sister-in-law, Mary (nee Newland). Both Richard and John could read & write and signed the marriage record. Richard & John were both mariners as was their father, Richard b. 1767. Richard baptised in November 1793 with parents Jeremiah & Mary (nee Brown), married Sarah Revell and had 2 sons and 1 daughter. Richard (Nov.1793) could not read & write and was a cordwainer. In 1851 he was living with his wife Sarah and "nephew" - probably great-nephew, Richard Crispin, who's mother had died and who's grandfather, William was the brother of Richard (Nov. 1793). William is also a shoemaker.
