Criminal Petitions. HO 17/39/1881827 Apr 12 1 individual petition (the prisoner) from Richard Steadman, cyder [cider] maker convicted at the Lent Hereford Assizes held on 31 March 1827 for sheep stealing, property of Daniel White. There is a character reference from Joseph Williams, cyder maker. Grounds for clemency: the prisoner's first offence and future good behaviour if released. Initial sentence: death, commuted to transportation for life. Annotated: 'rejected 4 May'. Fm38
