STEEL William, Tried Woolwich (Marine Barracks Court Martial) 3rd April 1822. Sentence 7 years. Native Place, Cheshire. Trade Gardener. Age 21, Height 5ft 8½in, Complexion Fresh, Hair Dark Flaxen, Eyes Grey. ---------------------------------------------------- Colonial Secretary Index. STEEL, William. Per "Princess Royal" 1825 On return of men and boys belonging to Carters Barracks who have been exempted from the Treadwheel by the Acting Engineer (Reel 6017; 4/5782 p.263) -------------------------------------------------- State Records NSW Reel 824 4/3865 Colonial Sentence Transported to Port Macquarie 7th January 1826 Per Amity Tried Sydney Bench Date 28th December 1825 Sentence Three years. --------------------------------------------------- The Police. Dec 28. William Steel and George Smith, prisoners of the crown, charged with having stolen 3 bags of maize which had been delivered into their charge, to be conveyed to the Carters' Barracks, and which maize was the property of Government, were severally ordered to be removed to a penal settlement for 3 years.
