For the next 23 years, his Convict Record is filled with entries concerning his "insubordination" and absconding from various chain gangs and, as a result, the numerous extensions in months and years to his original sentence. In all, an extra 14 years were added to the original 7 years. Below are the circumstances of those additions (some of which were remitted): 1833, 15 June: Absconding from chain gang for second time - 3 years' hard labour and recommendation to be removed to Port Arthur. 1834, 3 December: Absconding and taking a corduroy jacket belonging to a fellow prisoner - original sentence extended by 2 years, and to remain at Constitution Hill (north of Hobart). 1835, 11 December: Absconded - 3 years' extension on original sentence, hard labour on hulk chain gang. 1835, 23 September: Absconded - 3 years' extension on original sentence. 1839, 30 November: Insubordination - existing sentence of transportation extended 2 years, to be sent to Port Arthur. 1845, 9 September: 6 months' hard labour in chains for insubordination. 1845, 24 October: His sentence was due to expire. 1846: Issued with a Certificate of Freedom No.232. 1846, 27 May: Tried at Hobart Quarter Sessions and sentenced to 7 years, 4 years of this term to be served at Port Arthur. 1854, 28 March: Granted a second Certificate of Freedom (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON37-1-3$init=CON37-1-3p35).


1831, 24 October: Convicted at Lancaster for stealing half a crown from the person at Lancaster - 7 years transportation. 1832, 11 February: Sent from the prison hulk Ganymede at Woolwich for transportation to VDL (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849; Ganymede Index 1818-1836). 1832: On arrival in VDL, listed as 29, single and labourer (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON34-1-3$init=CON34-1-3P504).
