Alexander Stewart, Verdict: Guilty, Verdict Comments: Guilty - recommendation for leniency, Sentence: Transportation - 7 years Matthew Christie, Verdict: Guilty, Verdict Comments: Guilty - recommendation for leniency, Sentence: Transportation - 7 years. No ship found for Matthew Christie. Alexander was listed as 21 yer old on arrival, 56” tall, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, dark blue eyes, can read. 22/11/1853: TOL 3/4/1855: CP 7/6/1859: Free Certificate – Hobart. 30/5/1873 The Tasmanian Tribune, Hobart: Alexander Stewart, charged with beating Ann Abrahams, was remanded till 4th June. (This offence was noted on his Conduct Record) Sentenced to 6 months hard labour, and at the end of that time to find two sureties in £10 each to keep the peace for six months further, the magistrates considering the assault a most wanton one. 17/9/1906: There is a death listed for Alexander Stewart (there were quite a few of that name around) who died at the New Town Charitable Institution aged 76, and was buried at the Cornelian Bay Cemetery, paupers section. – The age fits, but that’s all. Found no marriage for him.
