Perthshire Courier Perthshire, Scotland 18 Apr 1833: The Court met this day at 9 o’clock, and proceeded to the trial of 16th. John Stewart, accused of murder:—“ In so far as upon the 3d day of October, 1832, the said John Stewart did, within or near to the house then occupied by him, situated at or near to Cally, near Dunkeld, in the County of Perth, attack Christian Macintosh, otherwise Stewart, his wife, and did with an axe, strike her several blows on the head, in consequence of which injuries the said Christian Macintosh, otherwise Stewart, immediately or soon after died, and was thus cruelly murdered by the said John Stewart. John Stewart was subject to epileptic fits during his life. National Records of Scotland Title Precognition against John Stewart for the crime of murder at Cally, near Dunkeld, Caputh, Perthshire Dates 1833 Accused John Stewart, wood ranger, Address: Cally, near Dunkeld, Caputh, Perthshire. Victim Christian Stewart, wife of John Stewart (accused), Cally near Dunkeld, Caputh, Perthshire, John Stewart was listed as 66 years old on arrival. Native Place: Perthshire. John was literate, protest, a widower with 4 male and 4 female children, 5'5½" tall, dark ruddy complexion, brown to grey hair, grey eyes, carroty whiskers, lost one front upper tooth, breast hairy, scar inside left wrist, scar back of forefinger of left hand. 20/1/1835: Convict death register - died at Liverpool Hospital.
