... the Court proceeded to the trial of Thomas Stewart, accused of housebreaking and theft, aggravated by being habit and repute a thief. ..., a number of witnesses were examined, after which, the jury were addressed by Henry Home Drummond, Esq advocate-depute, on the part of the Crown, and by James Walker, Esq. on the part of the pannel, ...; after which, the evidence was summed up, in a very impartial manner, by Lord Meadowbank. The Jury were inclosed, and soon after returned a verdict, unanimously finding Stewart Guilty of the crimes of housebreaking and theft, but that the charge of habit and repute was ... After a very impressive speech from both Judges, the pannel was sentenced to be executed here, on Wednesday the 3d June next. Neil Gilmour Caledonian Mercury, 30 April 1812.
