1836: Ticket of Leave - he is on a list of convicts who were granted a ToL (see Launceston Advertiser, Thu 11 Aug 1836, p4, from the Hobart Town Gazette, Fri 5 Aug 1836). 1838, 9 March: Certificate of Freedom - from the The Hobart Town Courier, p4: "The period for which the undermentioned persons were transported, expiring at the date placed after their respective names, certificates of their freedom may be obtained then, or any subsequent period, upon application at the Muster Master's Office, Hobart town, or at that of a Police Magistrate in the interior: ... John Stuport 14th March, England..."

1831, 15 April: John Stuport, 23, was received aboard the Retribution hulk at Woolwich. He was sent from there for transportation on 24 March 1832 (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849). Note: Different age to court record. 1832, July: On arrival in VDL, John Stuport was listed as 25 and a shoemaker (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON18-1-6$init=CON18-1-6p167). Note: Difference in age from previous records. He was married with three children and said his wife, Janet Giles, was with them at his native place of Glasgow (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-39$init=CON31-1-39p209).
