This day, the following prisoners, sentenced at the Assizes, were transmitted under an escort of the 37th Regiment, to the Hulk Surprise at Cove:— Edward Carroll, for Rape; James Blake, Horse stealing; William Daly, Larceny ; Martin Ryan, same; John Connors, Pig stealing Michael Mara, Thomas Hayes, John Ward, Patrick Callaghan, Mathew Callaghan, and Jeremiah Sullivan, all for Larceny ; Denis Gorman, Pig stealing. He was a native of Limerick and could plough and reaps. He was convicted of stealing geese and sentenced at Limerick on 14 March 1828 to life. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes - Height 5 feet 6 inches; complexion dark ruddy and freckled; hair brown to grey and eyes grey. Transport number 40. Assigned to Woolloomoolloo Road Party. He received his ticket of leave in 1834 (number 34/1110) and certificate of freedom in 1835 (number 35/1323).
