Per "Fortune", 1806. 1820 Jul Memorial (Fiche 3032; 4/1825B No.725 pp.767-70) 1825 Nov 24 Affidavit re loss of his conditional pardon (Reel 6028; 4/1690 p.147) -------------------------------------------------- July 1820. Memorial of Charles Summerell sheweth That Petitioner arrived per ship Fortune (2nd) in 1806, under sentence of Transportation for 14 years, which sentence being expired in 1817. He hath a wife and family of three children, and being desirous to become a settler, Petitioner hopes most humbly solicits that Your Excellency be pleased to grant him such portion of land as may he deem and in Your excellency’s wisdom and Benevolence to Petitioner will as in duty bound ever pray, The petitioner having worked for me for seven years, I can recommend as an Honest industrious man. Portsmouth Hulk records. HO 9-8_3. Received 6 prisoners from Somerset, 10 Nov 1803 Charles Summerell, age 20, C.R. Fy, (Capitally Respited, Felony) Tried at Bridgewater, 13 Aug 1803. Sentence, BS 14 years. Sent on board Fortune, 9 Jan 1806.




Charles was transported for on 9th October 1802 , for stealing a grey gelding worth 10 pounds the property of Thomas Hunt. 1820 Charles petitioned Governor Macquarie for a land grant. 24/11/1825: COF: He was then 47 years old, (which would make him born 1778 had a dark ,sallow complexion,. black to grey hair and dark eyes and was 5'6" tall. His certificate stated that he was a native of Gloucestershire and was a pin maker by trade, although his court case stated that he was a labourer. 15/7/1815: Charles(31) married Mary Webb (21) (Wanstead 1814) at St Johns in Parramatta. They had 10 children. Mary (Webb) Summerell died 14th August 1836. Charles date of death is unknown but believed to be after February 1845.
