Sunderland was born in Leeds, Yorkshire in 1801 and arrived with his family on the Speke in November 1808. Although convicted and sentenced to 4 years at Newcastle, Sunderland was released from the Sydney Gaol c.20 October 1821. The reason for his early release in still unknown.

Sunderland was born at Leeds, Yorkshire in 1801 and arrived frr with his family in November 1808. Whilst being held at the Sydney Gaol, he was released c.20 October 1821 before embarking for Newcastle. The reason for his release is so far unknown.
