After Susan arrived in Hobart, she was sent out on 3 domestic assignments (one of which she absconded from and added 6 months to her sentence), and was also confined to the Cascades Female Factory when she was found to be pregnant. She gave birth to her son James Mills there in December 1838. She later married convict Joseph Pooler in Aug 1842 and had another son Joseph in Nov 1842. Susan died in 1849 of TB in Hobart aged just 34 years and her husband Joseph died in 1866 aged 58. DNA connections have been found between descendants of her two sons.
