From my own research: Mathew Sutton arrived in Tasmania in 1840, as a convict on the ship Mandarin. He was only around 20 years old. He had been convicted in London to life transportation for rape. Some accounts say it was as an accessory to rape. Some accounts even say he was set up. We will probably never know.
