Prisoner was clerk of cheques for the Marylebone workhouse. He under recorded sacks (made by workhouse paupers) sold in the workhouse records, presumably keeping a large part of the customers' payments for himself (evidence is very hard to follow). His mother and sister, Elizabeth Ladd and Ann Wilson, petitioned on the grounds of good character, with the undersigned support of 22 Guardians of the Poor for Marylebone. (Home Office saw no grounds to reduce his sentence.)
