Sidwell SUXSSPEACH was convicted at the Middlesex Gaol, London on 20 Feb 1834 for stealing - wearing apparel from her Mistress. Imprisoned before. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Edward' arriving 4 Sept 1834. Single woman; aged 19yrs; house servant; 5' 1/4" height; fresh complexion; dark brown hair; Hazel eyes. Native place of birth: Plymouth, England. Work services in the Colony of VDL. Several records of misconduct including quarreling and creating a riot. Sent to the Female Factory, Hobart - interior (wash tubs and hard labour section). On one occasion, out after hours and 'being in a family way'. Female Factory, Launceston. CHILD: Record for her male child, George, at the Orphan School, New Town, near Hobart. Admitted 26 April 1839 aged 2 yrs, name George SUSPEACH. Mother Sidwell SUSPEACH (per ship 'Edward'). Appears to have remained in the home until 29 April 1851 when discharged to R. Patterson, Victoria. (ref. SWD28, CS05/191/4635) Sidwell may have married, but because of the differences in spelling her name, more research is needed to find out more.
