On Thursday arrived from Calcutta, via Derwent, the ship Mary, Captain Ormon, with a various cargo. -Passengers from Calcutta, Captain Faithfull and Lieutenant Hamilton:-The Mary sailed from Calcutta the 23d of February, and left the Pilot the 1st of March. Sydney Gazette, Sat 7 Jun 1817. -------------------------------------------------- Convicts who sailed on the 'Mary' direct from Ireland - 1819 & 1836 - are currently being listed, incomplete data to date.

Have been exploring my parents family trees: Samuel Swaine, as Swain shows up related to Mary Ann Hassell their daughter. 1825 to 1876. Samuel Swaine is my Direct Ancestor. 1st Cousin, 6 times removed. Married Leah nee Wood or King. I myself arrived in Australia three decades ago from New Zealand married to a Mr Mills. Mary Ann can be found at Singleton NSW.

Son of Charles Swain and Leah (King) Swain Occupation: Plasterer and slater/butcher. 26/9/1824: Married Patience Wright - family sites list 6 children. Samuel could read, was Protestant, married with 2 male and 2 female children, 5'8ÂĽ" tall, brown complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, forehead low, top joint of middle finger right hand crooked. 1837: Aged 30, Assigned to James Pattison, Patrick Plains. 23/2/1841: TOL Patrick Plains. 31/12/1847: CP 1/10/1870: Samuel Swain died in Rangers Valley, NSW.
