Convict Notes




Absconded from Mr Henry Zouch, Queanbeyan, on 1 November. Was associated with another runaway convict Mr James Daley, Charles Kerr. Was shot dead on 18th December 1838 while attempting to rob a dray owned by Mr Stephen Goodwin near Bungendore. Mr William Childs was lying under the dray and shot Charles Swan dead and apprehended Mr James Daley. Reference The Australian Thursday 14 February 1839. Buried 18 December 1838 at Oaks Estate Burial Ground. From Government Gazette was 4ft 11 3/4 high of sallow complexion with brown hair and grey eyes.
