William Swift was convicted of stealing 4lbs of meat from a butcher's chop. CCC London 23 Nov 1840. 7 yr sentence. Sent to Parkhurst Prison for Boys, Isle of Wight for 3 years then transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Mandarin' arriving 16 Oct 1843. Single; tailor. Native place -City of London. Apprenticed out at Liverpool St. Hobart. 1845: charge of absconding, New Norfolk. Discharged. Conditional Pardon approved 12 Oct 1847.
