23/3/1839 Kentish Mercury London, England: Joshua Sykes was then again placed at the bar, charged with the wilful murder of Charles Jeffottt, another marine, at Chatham on the 27th of October last. A second count charged him with manslaughter, and a thirt dcount charges him with aiding and abetting some person or persons unknown to commit the act....The Jury deliberated for a short time, and then found the prisoner guilty of manslaughter.
