Tried in court for housebreaking stealing candlesticks and a blanket 30/09/1847 - Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON33-1-106$init=CON33-1-106P245. Sentenced to 14 years transportation Marriage Permission Granted (because convicts) 14 Sep 1853 - 'Tasmania', 'Australia'. Noted in document; 'women must stay 12 months in the colony'. Married Mary MIller 30 Jan 1854 at Hobart Convicted for pig stealing? 27/08/1855 - Hobart, Tasmania Convicted with Mary Miller. https://stors.tas.gov.au/AB693-1-1$init=AB693-1-1_027. Notes: there is an 1879 conviction for feloniously wounding but is not him based on age and called junior. Begins 4 year sentence 10/Sept/1855 - Port Arthur, Tasmania, Australia 2nd marriage - Elizabeth White, 16 Nov 1865 at Hobart and had 11 children. Return of Persons convicted under the Provisions of 31 Vict. No 12, during the week ending 1 July 1871. Robert Symes at Hobart Town, per Aboukir, F.S., Offence-larceny, Sentence-6 months, Native place-Glasgow, Trade-bootcloser, age 40yrs, 5 feet 4 1/2 inches high, resides at Hobart Town. Tasmania Police Gazette, 7th July 1871, p112. Prisoner discharged from H M Gaol during the week ending 3 Jan 1872 & 30 Dec 1871. Robert Symes, per Aboukir, F.S., for larceny, sentenced to 6 months at Hobart, native of Glasgow, age 40yrs, 5 feet 2 1/2 inches high, light brown hair, scar on right forehead. Tasmania Police Gazette, 5th Jan 1872, p4. 3rd marriage to Sarah Ann Eliza Blowfield, 20 Jan 1886 at Hobart and had 5 children with her.
