This was a major break-in with the business's estimated losses put at £3,000 mainly in stock taken (including 160lbs, about 72kg of opium). One of the accused, George Tanner, was a former employee.

WILLIAM PEACOCK , WILLIAM SIMPSON , and GEORGE TANNER were indicted for feloniously breaking and entering the warehouse of John Ellis and others, at St. Bennet, Paul's-wharf , and stealing sundry goods, and various bills of exchange, &c., their property .
