Convict Notes
George Tansell was born at North Piddle, Worcestershire in 1813.On 17th. March, 1831 he was found guilty of stealing a pony, saddle and bridle from his employer a Mr. John Callow of Tardebigg and sentenced to transportation. After spending twelve months on the hulk "Hardy" in Portsmouth Harbor he was shipped on the "Lord William Bentick" to Tasmania where he arrived on 28th. August, 1832. He was sent to Launceston on 22nd. June, 1833 and on 24th. June, 1836 went to work for a Mr. Hazelwood at Norfolk Plains. In 1843 he was granted a Pardon and in 1846 sailed to Adelaide on the vessel "Union". On 2nd. August 1849 he married Margaret Alvis Cameron at Noarlunga and they had eight children. He died at Echunga in the Adelaide Hills on 28th. January, 1881 of "Natural Decay".
