The 'Ocean' was an English merchant ship and whaler built in 1794 at South Shields, England. In 1803 she accompanied the ship 'Calcutta' to Australia, acting as a transport supply ship. When the settlers abondoned Port Phillip, Melbourne, Victoria the ship transferred convicts, settlers and marines to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). In 1815, 1817 & 1823 the 'Ocean' transported convicts to New South Wales.

Benj. Law. William Tarry, and WortkituttoH Packer, for breaking open the house of George Peach, of this town, and stealing therefrom eleven Bills of Exchange of the value upwards £l,:300; several Bank of England and other cash notes; and some silver, the property of the said George- Peach ; Northampton Mercury, 1 March 1817. At the assizes for this county, which ended on Thursday last. Win. EU, Samuel Seal, John Brooks. James Cheard, William Upton, Benj. Law, William Tarry, Richard Rattan, and Thos. Hollowny, for burglaries; George Brown for house breaking; and Joseph Gray and George Taceif. for stealing above UM value of 40s. dwelling house; were capitally convicted, and received sentence death, but were all reprieved before the Judge left the town; Northampton Mercury, 8 March 1817.

ADM 101/57/8/11817-1817 Folios 2, 7 and 13: William Terry, Convict, aged 31; disease or hurt, severe pain in his right side, distressing cough, dyspepsia and headache. Taken ill, 26 August 1817. Died 15 November 1817. Had cough for three months previously but did not complain while in the hulk.
