Convict Notes

On 4 April 1792, Mr Tate was charged with aiding Sarah Brennan (Queen) to stowaway aboard the convict ship Pitt in Sydney Cove. The Pitt was due for imminent departure. At a magistrate's court convened by Captain David Collins, Reverend Richard Johnson and Surveyor-General Augustus Alt, Mr Tate pleaded not guilty. Brennan was called as a witness, along with convict William McNamara (Sirius) and a Mr Thomas Bryan. McNamara was aboard the Pitt as he was being sent to Norfolk Island. Mr Tate was acquitted of the charges on the same day.
