John was the first born of Francis Tattam and Elizabeth Hutchins. Baptised 2/2/1812 at Oakley.Tried with James Hawes stealing 15 hens and 1 cock at Brill. In 1837 was employed by J.E. Hargraves of Dungog. He was a Ticket of Leave holder when he married Johanna Hughes at Paterson of 4/8/1840.John obtained his Certificate of Freedom on 25/5/1841.
