Convict Notes
After Thomas' death in 1865 Mary must have made her way to Victoria with at least 2 of her daughters, Sarah Annie and Elsie Gerte. Mary is buried in St Kilda Cemetery in the same grave as her daughter Elsie Gerte Byworth and granddaughter Leila Byworth Mary's daughter Sarah Annie married John Thomas Parkinson 30 Oct 1875 at St Peters Eastern Hill. Sarah and John had 6 children and their family lived in the East Brunswick area of Melbourne.
Mary Tavender was 21 years old on arrival and was transported for ‘Stealing money from her master”. Mary was single, 5’1 ¼” tall, fair complexion, light brown eyes, brown hair, dimple on chin. Native Place: North Nibley, Gloucestershire. Assigned to Mr. W. Birch at Launceston. 21/11/1842: Married Thomas Morley (Lady East 1824) she was 22 and he was 34 – they had at least 5 children but there are 10 children listed on the Colonial Tasmanian Family Links database. 25/2/1845: TOL No date of death found for Mary, Thomas died at Launceston of Asthma in 1865.
