The 1825 Journey. The ship Mariner, Captain Fotherley, arrived from Ireland with female prisoners, on Sunday evening. She left the Cove of Cork, the 12th of March, and brings 112 female prisoners, having lost only one on the passage. A few passengers also came per this opportunity. TAYLOR Family connections for Samuel (Powell) are: An amendment added Sep 2025. Ann (Taylor) was born in 1798 at Dublin & became a laundress. She was tried for stealing a mantle at Dublin city in 1824, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW on 10 7 1825 after a voyage of 4months (6weeks in sick bay) on MARINER; she was Protestant. She married Samuel (Powell) on 18 6 (from Smees records) 19 5 1827 & produced 1child. She obtained her Certificate of Freedom on 12 11 1832. She died in 1869 age71. [Some details taken from this Website] Samuel (Powell) was born on 15 4 1787 & became a soldier. He was tried for desertion from the army at Portalegre Portugal Court Martial on 27 2 1812, sentenced to 14years & arrived in NSW on 9 10 1813 after a voyage of about 8months on EARL SPENCER; he was Protestant. He enlisted with 4th Regiment in NSW. He received his Certificate of Freedom on 2 3 1826. He is recorded in December 1828 as a sawyer living with his wife with William (Fowler) at Hunters Hill. He died on 14 3 1838 age50. Medical and surgical journal of the Mariner convict ship from 30 December 1824 to 15 August 1825 by Harman Cochrane, surgeon and superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed on a voyage to New South Wales. Folios 16-17: Ann Taylor, aged 32, convict: disease or hurt, general soreness, headache and wandering pains. Put on sick list, 23 March 1825 at sea.
