In November 1844 at the High Court of Justiciary, Jane Taylor or Aitcheson and Margaret Aitcheson were convicted of thefts on 1 or 2 October 1844 of saucepans and covers from a shop in George Street. Each accused received transportation of 7 years. - see Scotsman newspaper 27 November 1844 p 4 on 'High Court of Justiciary'. Jane Taylor or Aitchison, Margaret Aitchison (mother and daughter), and Mary Smith, for theft of stone-ware from a shop in George Street, aggravated in the cases of the two first by previous convictions for theft, weresentenced, the Aitchsons, to seven years' transportation, and Smith to one year's confinement in the Perth prison. Witness (Edinburgh) 27 Nov 1844. --------------------------------------------------- National Archives. Nutts, Surgeon and Superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed in a voyage to Van Diemen’s Land. (Described at item level). Folio 1: Jane Taylor, aged 34, convict; sick or hurt, caries inferior maxilla; put on sick list 15 August 1845, put off sick list 10 September 1845 cured. Folio 12: case no. 6, Jane Taylor, aged 42, convict; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, caries inferior maxilla; put on sick list 5 November 1845, sent 12 November 1845 to hospital at Hobart Town. Note: different ages given for the same person.
