The theft was by two pauper lodgers who took whatever they could find (clothes, a knife, food and small change). The evidence was that they had been known to the victim for a year. Tedman says he was forced to crime by want, that his parish relief was 6d a day. (Note - one of the items stolen was 1 liaf of bread valued at 1 shilling = two days assistance)
