TERRET, Ann (c1779-1857) Tried - 1 May 1810 Gloucester Quarter Sessions Ann was most likely baptised at Lydney in Gloucestershire on the 22nd of August 1779 to Wynifred/Winifred Terret (father’s name not recorded). She was indicted in 1810, charged with larceny. Ann had been a servant at the time and was given a 7 year sentence to New South Wales. She was first sent to the Colony in 1812 on the Emu and finally reached Sydney in 1814 on the Broxbornebury. BC: 1793? (indent & marriage) [most likely bapt 22 Aug 1779 Gloucester, Eng., mother Wynifred Terrett. Source: St John's Church of England, Parramatta NSW: Church Register - Marriages; ML ref: Reel SAG 55-56 & V1815-1791-3A) 1820 – William Makepeace wrote a memorial to the Gov, stating that he had received a CP this year, was a married man with 2 children & asked for land to be a farmer. 40 acres was written. (SRNSW Col Sec Papers, Memorial Fiche 3025; 4/1824B pp761-2 & Sydney Gazette, 12/05/1821, p2)) 1821, 8 Sept. to 17 Oct. – Depositions were made from witnesses in the case of Makepeace v Ikin. Mr William Ikin was Chief Constable & owned a public house. Makepeace had sworn at Ikin & told a Liverpool Constable he “would horsewhip Mr Ikin if he came near his cart again”. Makepeace stated that he was supposed to take instructions only from Mr Moore the magistrate, but Ikin kept interfering & he charged Ikin with stealing bricks for his own use & many other charges. (SRNSW Col Sec Papers, Letters Received Reel 6051; 4/1750 pp195-215) 1822, Jan. – Makepeace asked for payment for cartage of building materials for Govt work at Liverpool. Thomas Moore was in charge of the work & William used a cart with 2 bullocks to move lime, loam, sand, timber & bricks over a number of weeks. He could sign his name. [2nd entry as FERRATT 20597], FS, Broxbornebury,, 7 years, housekeeper, Sydney (42368) & spouse – William MAKEPEACE, CP, Indian 1810, died 1823 Sydney (31862) & children – Mary b1816, James b1820, William Henry b1824 – all listed under Makepiece, all BC (32442-4) [Emily JOHNSON, con, Mary Ann 1823, 7 years, govt servant to Ann Makepeace, Sydney (27576)] John WHEELER, con, General Stewart 1818, govt servant to Ann Ferrett (?), Sydney (45063) [Anne’s husband-to-be] 1823, August – William Makepiece (?), aged 38, died in 1823 & the funeral was held on 15 Aug. at St Philips Sydney. (V1823-5842-2B) 1823 – John Wheeler, convict per General Stewart, was an assigned servant to Ann Terrett of George St, Sydney. [Was this soon after her husband had died?]. Her letter was referred to the Surveyor-General, but no land was available.
