Convict Notes
Thomas was 21 years old when indicted for shooting at Samuel Pettit with a large horse pistol, with the intention of murdering or maiming him to prevent his appearance as a witness in a subsequent case. He was sentenced to be hung, but was then transported. 23/2/1816: Married Mary Bedall/Beadle in Herstmonceux. They had 1 son in 1817. Mary had 2 more children Stephen 1820 and Martha 1822. Mary remarried in 1825. 27/12/1821: On list of prisoners transported to Newcastle per 'Elizabeth Henrietta' 21/3/1823: On list of prisoners assigned. 2/10/1824: To be sent to Port Macquarie. On return of fines and punishments in the Police Office. 1828 Census: Incarcerated in the prison hulk Phoenix, apparently because of his rebelliousness. 8/1/1831: Convict Death Register: Aged 36 District/Parish Sydney.
