Convict Notes
After Thomas died, his wife Mary Anne Kilvert (nee Lewis), married William Bell (free selector and carrier) at age 23, in Campelltown, NSW. She had two children to him: George (age 12 at mother's death) and Elizabeth (age 11 at mothers death). Mary committed suicide on 20th Sept. 1868 at Sutton Forrest, NSW.
Thomas KILVERT, (b.1805 - Manchester, England). Parents were John Kilvert (bap.21 Jun.1773)& Elizabeth Garnett. At the Salford, Lancashire, General Sessions, in February 1833, there was a "Bill of Costs of Prosecution" of Thomas Kilvert and John Kilvert (QSP/2977/48). Thomas was convicted and sentenced to 7 years on 1st December 1834 and arrived in Tasmania 07.10.1835, on the convict ship “Aurora 1”. (John Kilvert remained in England). The “Hobart Town Courier”, Hobart, reported on 25.10.1839. – “Government Notice 229, Colonial Secretary’s Office, October 23rd. – Tickets of leave have been granted to the following convict(s)….Thomas Kilvert (Aurora). – By His Excellency’s command - M Forster”. The “Colonial Times”, Hobart – 30th November 1841, reported: “The period for which the undermentioned persons were transported expiring at the date placed after their respective names. Certificates of their freedom may be obtained then, or at any subsequent period, upon application at the Muster Master’s Office, Hobart Town, or that of a police magistrate in the interior. – Thomas Kilvert 1st December 1841”. After release it is beleaved that Thomas KILVERT resided in Bong Bong, NSW. His occupation was Sawyer and he married Mary Ann Lewis (born Campbelltown, NSW) on 24 Dec. 1850, at all Saints Church, Camden, NSW. He died in 1854 before birth of second son (20.Nov.1854). His two children were: John Thomas KILVERT, born in Bong Bong, County of Camden, NSW, 5th May 1852 and Thomas KILVERT, born 20th Nov. 1854, Sutton Forest, County of Camden, NSW.
