Thomas Rawsthorne was transported on the Recovery, departing 30th Jul 1819 and arriving 18th Dec 1819 with 189 passengers.

Built 1799 Batavia, 493 tons. 1823 voyage. Also arrived the same morning, (i.e. Thursday last) from Ireland, having sailed from the Cove of Cork on the 5th April, the ship Recovery, Captain Fotherley, with 180 male convicts, in tolerable health : no deaths on the passage. Surgeon Superintendent, Dr. Cunningham, R. N. The guard comprises a detachment of the 1st, or Royals, commanded by Captain Gill, who is accompanied by his Lady. Three free passengers come out by this conveyance, at the expence of the Crown. Sydney Gazette, Thurs 7 Aug 1823. 1835 voyage. Surgeon's general remarks. On 5th October 1835, the Guard embarked at Deptford, consisting of 1 staff, 1 subaltern, 2 sergeants, 1 drummer, 26 rank and file of the 28th Regiment, accompanied by 8 women and 4 children. On the 19th at Spithead we received on board 160 male convicts from the Leviathan and 120 from the York Hulk and in the 30th got under weigh, previous to which, the convicts were discharged to the hulks in consequence of their being a great nuisance on board. Family connections for Thomas (Rawsthorne) are: RAWSTHORNE Thomas (Rawsthorne) was born about 1795/99. He was convicted of housebreaking at Lancaster Assizes, sentenced to 14years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 18 12 1819 after a voyage of 5months on RECOVERY; he was assigned as labourer to Pierce (Collits), his future father in law, at Prospect. He was issued his Ticket of Leave 34/2170 for Bathurst on 2 2 1826 & married firstly at age16 Thomas (Rawsthorne) Ticket of Leave on 20/30 10 1826 at Christ Church Castlereagh.>>>He died on 15 6 1837 age about42. [Some information taken from this Website] Sophia (Colli/etts) was born on 16 1 1810 & baptised on 24 6 1810 with James & Joseph at St Johns CofE Parramatta. She married secondly Thomas (Morris) after 1837 & produced 6children. She died on 25 1 1868 age58- mother of 9children. Details of Sophia (Colli/etts)s family are given in entry for Pierce (Collet MINORCA 1801) on this Website. Thomas (Rawsthorne) & Sophia (Colli/etts) produced 3children: 1.Thomas (Rawsthorne) was born on 23 6 1827 & baptised on 24 6 1827 &/or 22 6 1834 age7 at Christ Church Castlereagh. He died on 26 6 1827 age3d. 2.Joseph (Rawsthorne) was born on 14 10 1829 & baptised on 2 11 1829 at Christ Church Castlereagh. Sophia Jane then married Thomas Morris, the son of James Morris (Convict, 1801, "Minorca") and Sarah Mitchell. Sophia and Thomas Morris had a further 6 children.

On arrival in the colony, Thoams was assigned to Pierce Collits (Convict, 1810, "Minorca") as a convict labourer. On February 2nd 1826 he was granted his ticket of leave (34/2170), his district stated as Bathurst. Later that same year, he married Sohia Jane Collits, the daughter of Pierce on 30th October 1826. Thomas and Sophia had three children; Thomas 1827, Joseph 1829 and James 1834.
